Since the invention of the 2x4 in the 1830s, there has been no greater single force for creating change and improvement in American construction than the building component manufacturing industry. The invention of the first metal truss connector plate in Florida in 1952 marked the beginning of the industry that in just over five decades has vastly changed home, apartment and commmercial building construction. These changes benefit all who are involved in the construction chain - the building designer, the builder, and the residential or commercial building owner.

Pitched Chord Roof Truss Advantages

1. Structures can be enclosed more quickly.
2. Complex roof designs are supported by exterior walls, which eliminates interior bearing walls and creates large, open living spaces.
3. This openess allows for entire ceilings and walls to be finished with drywall sheets, up to 12 feet in length installed uncut.
4. The ability of trusses to have large clear spans offers complete flexibility for the use of interior space.

Parallel Chord Floor Truss Advantages

1. Parallel chord trusses offer longer spans between supports for floor framing.
2. Trusses can be spaced optimally to best utilize lumber strength and conserve timber resources.
3. Because parallel chord trusses are lightweight, they are easy to handle and lift into place.
4. Parallel chord floor trusses provide a surface 3 1/2 inches wide for easier nailing and better glue contact.
5. No hole cutting or notching is required. Plumbing, electrical, mechanical and sanitary waste can run through spaces between web member openings.
